Birchbox May 2019

Hey there! Another month calls for another Birchbox review. I’m so excited to show this month’s box since I absolutely love the theme.

May is all about ‘Magic Mantra’. The box has a lovely colourful design and it comes with some stickers so you can personalize it to perfectly suit you. I’ll show you mine. 🙂

As you can see, my magic mantra is “Beaucoup imaginer, toujours explorer”. Translated into English it says: lots of imagination, always exploring, something that I believe really describes me as I’m a dreamer.

Now, let’s take a look at the products in this cute box.

The first product in this box is the Davines – Replumping Conditioner. Davines is a haircare brand that I got to know a little better through my Birchbox subscription.

Impressions: As I’ve loved every single product I’ve previously received in other Birchboxes I had high expectations for this one. As I always say, I’m not the biggest haircare professional and usually don’t do anything special for my haircare.

However, when I receive a product in a Birchbox, I always test them out. This conditioner has done exactly what it promised and hydrated my hair very thoroughly. My hair doesn’t really lack elasticity so I can’t speak for the elasticizing effects.

The best part of Davines haircare definitely is the scent of the products. Describing it is hard but i’ll give it a go. It really reminds me of citrusy candy I ate when I was little. The scent takes me back down memory lane and makes my shower time a delight.

The second product for May is the Doucce – Fierce & Fine graphic liner. I was so excited to see an eyeliner in this month’s box, it’s like the team at Birchbox knew I just ran out of my usual one.

Impressions: Fierce and fine seems like a perfect description for this eyeliner. I’m a sucker for felt tip eyeliners since they make the application much easier and I tend to end up with panda eyes on bad days and have to start all over again when I’m not using a felt or brush tip eyeliner.

The product isn’t water proof, which is what I would usually go for. However I did like it as a temporary replacement until I can get my hands on my usual liner again.

One little negative is that the liner ‘bleeds’ a little in the finer lines. This makes me a bit hesitant to wear it on a hot and sweaty day just because I’m afraid it would go everywhere. However, I don’t really see an issue for normal days.

The third product I received is the Rituals – The Ritual of Sakura Body Scrub. Honestly, Rituals products never disappoint. I’ve tried this one out before and absolutely loved it so a refill is always nice.

Impressions: Don’t you just love a sugar body scrub? I certainly do. Combined with the calming scent of Sakura this forms the perfect in-shower relaxation ritual. You’re not only relaxing but also taking care of your skin, which is amazing.

The scrub is pretty ‘soft’ in my opinion which makes it perfect for every day. Just remember to moisturize afterwards!

Not convinced yet? If you have a Rituals shop near you, you can always go in and try this scrub before purchasing. Just ask an employee, usually they’ll be happy to help and let you try out their products at the sink.

The fourth product is one I have been willing to try out ever since I saw it online. It is the Mélusine – Jade Facial Roller. I do believe these mineral facial rollers are a bit of a hype at the moment and I’m just intrigued by them.

Impressions: After using it a couple of days in my morning AND evening routine, I’m unsure if I can really visually see a difference. However, it does feel really nice to ‘roll’ my face and it tends to relax my face too.

What these rollers are supposed to do is close your pores, improve your éclat, reduce wrinkles and dark under-eye circles and give your collagen production a boost.

Even though I can’t really see anything after a few days, I’ll keep on using this in my routine just for the sake of using it. The promised effects are something you can take care of proactively and are only visible after a longer period of use. For now, the relaxation is enough for me on its own. I’m a fan!

The fifth product this month is the Vitamasques – Jade Sheet Mask. Vitamasques is one of those brands that got me very curious through their online advertising and beautiful packaging. I’m so happy I got to test one out in my Birchbox.

Impressions: As with all tissue masks, at first I struggle a bit unfolding it nicely without tearing it apart, the same was true for this one. The packaging of the mask seemed very promising. It claims the mask has a 4-in-1 effect. It provides gemstone therapy, aromatherapy, skin therapy and colour therapy.

The Jade mask is supposed to balance your mind and soothe skin. It is also the first sheet mask I try out which has to be on your face for 20 minutes!

Overall I’m very pleased with this mask. The scent was amazing, it’s a bit of a citrusy, relaxing spa-scent. After taking the mask off, my skin did look very well hydrated. The redness around my nose was also reduced a bit.

I’m sure that after trying this one out I’ll purchase masks by Vitamasques again.

Normally that is it but this month they included a little extra. It is this lovely perfume sample by Maison Margiela in the scent Whispers in the Library.

Again I feel like the birchbox team really knows me well. I’m such a book-lover and law school makes me read an infinite amount of books and spend hours in the library.

What makes this perfume so special is that it tries to “reproduce familiar scents and moments of warming locations and periods”. The ‘period’ listed on the perfume is Oxford 1997 so it is basically a day at Oxford library in 1997.

The fragrance is to die for and is described as paper and waxed wood. “Peppery vanilla notes of precious woods. The slowing down of time between whispers and turning pages.” This scent made me feel so comfortable and actually smelled familiar to me. I’m not sure how they managed to bottle this sentence as a scent, but they did.

This sample got me hooked and made me add this perfume to my wishlist. It also made me curious about the other scents they managed to reproduce.

That was all for the May Birchbox 2019. I must say that I ABSOLUTELY loved every single product I received this month. It was such a beautiful relaxing combination.

The overall rating for this box is a: 9.5/10.
